Studies on the incidences of Congenital Dylpiasia of the Hip in Korean Children


Abstract
420 new bron infants who were delivered at Pusan National University Hospital from 1969 to 1970, were examined regarding to the position in utero during delivery, skin fold in the groin and the thigh, the relative length of lower limbs, the presence of instability in the amount of abduction of the thigh from the midline. Also the review of the literatures were done concerning the etiology, incidence and reliable diagnostic symptoms and signs of congenital dislocation of the hip.
Following results were obtained:
1. Sex ratio of the 428 live new born; 225 were boys and 195 were girls.
2. Asymmetrical gluteal fold were found in 2 cases, supranumerary gluteal fold in a case, relative apparent shortening of lower limb in six cases; instability of the hip in four cases.
3. In 17 cases some limitation of abduction of the hip at 90 degree of hip flexion. (less than 15 degrees).
4. A premature baby, born by dystocia had asymmetric gluteal fold, shortening of lower limbs, limication of abduction of the thigh and instability with positive Ortholani¢¥s click.
